Finally back to his home the clover kingdom, Ferdia found that he was far from perfect, still weak and inefficient when it comes to magic. But that did not mean he was to stay that way for a long while, so in order to speed up the process of getting stronger the man would need to gather the proper equipment to defend and attack without the need of great magic. So Ferdia would just head up to one of the fancy blacksmiths in the whole country, a man in the royal capital.
Once you enter the shop you will find it to be a very large place with the decorations and weapons, all of them appeared high class enough, even to an amateur. Swords, shields spears etc all of them are sights to be hold. But surprisingly the place was all but empty at this time, with only three people in the whole store. First was the owner of the store a giant bald man, a young girl with black hair who is probably his daughter judging how young they are. And finally Ferdia himself, who was easily the tallest person there, Ferdia wore simple elegant noble clothes that is black and green in color. The golden eyed man was having a talk with the owner.
Ophelia was unsure where to go at this point in time. She had been looking around the Noble Region for something that might catch her eye. She was told by her Squad Mates that coming here might be a good idea, maybe look around for items that might help her as a newly minted Magic Knight. She was unsure of what to do, or where to go, and sadly, most if not all of her Squad Mates have all been occupied today. She herself thought that she would be busy, but then was given the day off. So, she was here, looking around aimlessly for what she might be able to do. Truth be told, she should definitely look for an item to help her with fighting. Her lack of offensive spells made her a bit vulnerable on that end, and her golems can only do so much. Ophelia knew of her weaknesses, but then also knew that she might not have enough money to spare to even buy anything noteworthy that will not break after three uses. She would sigh, looking around before catching a glimpse of a weapon shop of some sort. It looked like a weapon shop at least, though she could be wrong.
Without pause, Ophelia would head towards the said shop. She would stop just outside, and determine if she had been correct with her guess or not. While the place looked to be a weapon shop, it was somewhat different. Smithing. The owner was most likely a blacksmith as well. Maybe buying directly from the source would be a better idea, instead of going to those shops where people overpriced everything. Of course, she might be wrong and this place might also sell items at an overpriced rate. Whatever the case, she would enter with a smile. “Good morning!” Ophelia would greet as she stepped into the place. She would look around, and find a couple of people already inside the building itself. She saw that the proprietor was busy helping someone else, and so instead opted to look around for a bit. She knew nothing much about weapons, but knew that she will need one soon enough. It was only good for her to be armed and ready after all. “Hmm, what to do…” Ophelia would hum to herself while browsing. She was lost, and hoped that the proprietor at least could point her to the right direction.

After Ferdia finished discussed the details of what he wanted with the proprietor, the old man and the girl would go further in trying to get what Ferdia wanted. And while he waited the golden eyed man could not help but notice someone out of the corner of his eyes, a girl with white hair. She seemed a bit spaced and looking around, so the man decided to walk up to her and see whats going on perhaps entertain himself a little bit whilst helping her out if she did indeed end up needing his assistance in picking something.
So with a confident and striking bodily motion the man walked up to the girl, his golden gaze fixed on her as he began to speak. “forgive me for I am about to intrude madam, I could not help but see that you seem to be a bit lost on what to pick. Ah allow me to first introduce myself, my name is Ferdia Wilhelm, and I might not work here but I do believe I have an extensive knowledge when it comes to this topic so please if you have any question fire away, it might be a while before the owner comes back.” Ferdia would say while having a slight smile all the way through.
Ophelia would have been minding her own business, more so getting lost in the sea of items both magical and mundane, and not being able to choose one over the other. From what she could gather as well, everything was severely overpriced, and therefore would not be within her price range. Well, at least the good weapons would not be within her price range at all. As with any of the other stores within the Noble Region, everything was just too damned expensive. Ophelia would realize just how much the gap was between the rich and the poor in the Clover Kingdom, and honestly, it deterred her from even coming back here. It was just outright stealing, at least in her point of view.
And then she was approached by one of the customers. He seemed nice enough, offering to help her, and even introducing himself. She would turn towards him and smile brightly, always glad to have someone more knowledgeable teach her a thing or two. Ophelia does not shy away from having to tell people that she was did not understand something or another, after all, it only served her purpose to widen the scope of her knowledge. “Thank you for volunteering, Ferdia Wilhelm.” Ophelia would give him a slight nod, “I’m not really a weapons person, though my Squad Mates have told me that I might do well with having a weapon in my arsenal. It seems as though that they fear for my own safety, and I appreciate them for it.” She would conclude, then looking back towards the wall that was lined with weapons.
She would hum once more, “I was thinking of a sword. That would be an easy one, don’t you think?” She would ponder, though her train of thought was more for herself, “Maybe a spear, it would be easy to stab things and keep them at length. Might increase my safety too.” Ophelia continued as she eyed the rest of the inventory, “Or maybe a bow an arrow. Or a staff! Oh, I don’t know…” Ophelia would trail off, before glancing at Ferdia, “Ferdia Wilhelm, what do you think might be a good weapon?” She would ask, curious as to what the answer might be. She would like to know more about the weapons and what he might think might be better over all, “For me, at least.” She would finish, before pointing towards the weapons that were displayed.

The amber eyed man would smile, this young woman seemed to be honest and simple. He could tell from the look in her eyes she did not seem like the person who would shy away or hide anything, those type of people are……weird to the man but regardless they are often entertaining enough in their simplicity so its fine. Noting the Azure deer mantle on her and the fact that she talked about her squad mate, could mean that the girl was a dedicated magic knight which was a good thing to see. “I see, well those seem like smart squad mates, you should listen to their warnings, a weapon could be an life saver.” He would say with a light smile before turning serious as the girl began talking about the weapons.
Well it did not take him long to figure out just how much of an amateur she is, talking about bows and swords being easy to use. He did not blame her, not everyone is interested in weapons and with magic in the fingertips of everyone people tend to not pay as much attention to weapons. “for you huh?” the man would say it as he eyed her up and down, paying attention to her physique, she was a bit petite and a pretty lady but there does not seem to be a lot of muscle behind her. “well, I’d say for someone as you it depends on what range you are going to find yourself in, for close and mid range I’d recommend a two handed sword since you can displace the weight of the sword with both hands and have it be lighter than a single handed sword, but for long range I’d say avoid a bow, the strength it takes to draw one is way more than you would think. A crossbow would suit you better.” He would say before chuckling a little bit to himself. “but that are my recommendations, what do you think lady… I am sorry I don’t think I caught your name.” he would say before turning his gaze back at the girl.
Ophelia would nod at his comment about her Squad Mates. They were all good people, from what Ophelia could tell when she first joined. In fact, if they’re weren’t good people, she probably would not have joined the Azure Deers in the first place. She was not one to join up a nefarious group, even though they would offer her the things that the Azure Deer offered. Poverty was better than having to degrade oneself to do evil after all. It was something she had always lived by, and had kept her in a strait and narrow path, but very much content none the less. “Yes, you’re definitely right about them, Ferdia Wilhelm.” She would nod enthusiastically, her eyes still searching for the right weapon for herself. She had glossed over swords, though that might definitely be a bit too much for her to handle. She was not weapons expert after all, and was afraid she’d cut herself first before doing any injury against her opponent. “The Azure Deers are good people, very nice and friendly, also helpful to their members!” She smiles slightly at the thought, “I’m looking forward to the day I can contribute more to the squad. For now, maybe being able to protect myself properly might be the first step towards that.”
She would listen to his suggestions, taking stock of what his opinions were. They were, after all, informed and very much detailed. Ophelia probably would not have been able to garner such insights from digging through the library alone. “You’ve given something to think about, Ferdia Wilhelm.” She would start, trying to think of the range she might want to be in. “Short to mid range weapons might give me better chance at surviving especially when up against opponents that are melee based.” It was true, she had encountered wolves before and those were a terror to fight if they came up close. “But then there is also the fact that I can just shoot them down before they can come close.” That was also a factor to consider, better to kill them before they could get close. “But then what is they cannot he killed by my ranged weapons?” That was a conundrum in and of itself. If the ranged weapon cannot kill them, and they get close, then she’s left defenceless. “This might take longer than I expected…” Ophelia would trail off.
“I sometimes wish I wasn’t a Sensory type mage,” Ophelia sighed, “seems like I cannot do anything much besides supplementing an already existing group.” Even her golems were only as useful as they existed and within their limits. “An attack type mage would have an easier time with being a Magic Knight, don’t you think?” She would ask idly, eyes now searching for possible range weapons.
Ferdia would look confused at the young girl, she seemed to be way more hyper and much less like a lady than what the man expected. But that was fine too, as long as its fun right? “indeed for us magic knights all have a duty to perform but trying to overachieve can be a mistake, for as long as you focus on protecting yourself and grow stronger you will eventually be a great asset for the squad you are in, I am sure of it.” He said, one of the things he truly believed in, working together in a group would make the squad stronger, individuals who try to shine bright on their own would end up being a burden to the squad.
The man would then chuckle a bit to himself as the girl mind began processing a lot of what is going on with weapons on stuff. The man knew that the girl would have had a hard time picking a weapon but he did not expect her to be that green so he needed to offer her an easy route. “well there is a lot to consider when it comes to weapons that is for sure. Especially for someone like you, but there is an option that is quite good for all ranges and is something you can use with a little training and that is a spear, in fact I think I can help you with training if you want but thing is.” The man would pause for a second, before turning towards the girl.
“I would have to give you some rough training if you are up for it, if not then just pick a crossbow.” He would say, should the girl accept his offer of training he would try and devise a schedule where he could help, the only reason he even thought about it, was simple really. He would help a magic knight get stronger and also he would have someone that is a ‘friend’ in the azure deers so its all good.
“Ha you are quite interesting madam, if anything sensory mages are a precious commodity that needed to be protected. I wish I was one myself, but alas not everyone can do everything on their own. an ideal magic knight is someone that is surrounded by other knights that can help him achieve whatever it is that he wants. But that’s just what I believe.” Ferdia would say, for he himself had defensive abilities and wanted to surround himself with mages that can do what he can’t.
“I suppose so,” Ophelia would nod at the man as he made a valid point. When he mentioned ‘for us Magic Knights’, Ophelia turned around finally to take a good look at the man, realizing that he himself was wearing a Magic Knight’s Mantle. Purple Orcas, if she remembered correctly. It had been awhile since she had seen someone from another Magic Knight’s Squad, the last time had been Cyrus Elwood from the Golden Dawn during his tutoring of golem specialization. She had been very much thankful for the young man’s sharing of knowledge, and hoped that she could one day be able to use his teachings. For now, however she would try to first get a weapon of sorts. Better for her to be armed and ready, before trying out the new knowledge passed onto her by her once tutor. “A spear...that might be a good idea.” She would consider it for a moment, before shaking her head, “The problem with that is the fact that I don’t have the necessary strength to be able to wield such a weapon.” A spear might be the best, but for someone who had never exercised her strength, or picked up a weapon before, she might just end up stabbing herself in the eye, “At least, that’s what I think. I don’t know, maybe you’re right!”
And then he would suggest a crossbow once again. Ophelia really wanted a weapon, though she thought that a crossbow might be limited. “I think my issue with the crossbow is the fact that I would be vulnerable if I suddenly lose ammo.” The problem could definitely be averted by buying something to the likes of a magical crossbow, with ammo that did not necessarily mean to be physical, but rather constructs of magic. “I do have something in mind though, small but very useful, especially for close, mid or even long range.” Ophelia would start to envision the weapon, pulling it from her thoughts, a bank of knowledge which was a product of her time spent within the library.
She could not remember, however, and so continued on listening to the man’s comments as she did her best in trying to remember. “I see your point, Ferdia Wilhelm. Sensory Mages are great as part of a team, rounding up and making a much more cohesive unit.” She would acquiesce. “I hope to one day be a useful Sensory Mage, since as of right now, I’m still in the process of learning and taking in everything that is being taught to me by my Squad Mates.” And then, she would ask, “How about you, Ferdia Wilhelm, what is your specialty as a Magic Knight of the Purple Orcas?” Ophelia finished the question, before finally remembering the name of the weapon she had been trying to pull from the recesses of her mind.
“Oh! Have you ever heard of a Chakram?” Ophelia would ask excitedly, clapping her hands together.
Ferdia would listen to the girl as she doubts his choice of the spear, bringing up the argument of strength which was a real thing, but then again the spear is one of the easiest weapons to learn to use well. “well that is true kind of, but a little bit of training would make you used to a spear plus a spear is usually held by two hands which makes the weight easier to bear compared to most of the single handed weapons. It’s a neat a little trick, which is why you see that most inexperienced fighters use spears and different polearms. Although mastering it is no easy feat.” He would add in the end, for after all even he himself was still in the process of mastering combat with the spear, well at least close to.
He would then nod his head as she expressed her fears with he crossbow, it was he would have recommended to carry a small melee weapon to accompany the ranged weapon, but he felt that would be a little too much for the girl at this stage. Before he could agree with her on that one and just nix the recommendation altogether however the topic changed. The man would cross his arms and nod along the way the girl talked. “exactly the magic knight squads is not a place for individuals to do everything themselves, it’s a place for like minded knights gather to protect the nation that is so very dear to us all don’t you agree?”
“well my magic is a bit simple, but its just defense magic. I guess it’s fitting for a me though, a magic knight is the defender of the nation.” The man would chuckle a bit at this little pun he made, thinking about the real reason he got defense magic. For after all everything in his life is up to him, protecting his younger brother, satisfying his parents ambition in them and strengthen his family’s position in the country. All of which are duties he cant be anything less than perfect in.
“Ah chakram a really……. Interesting pick, but it does have the capability to attack from both short range and some what mid range, of course it usually does not have a bow’s distance but its serviceable and it does not require as much strength.” He would say before pausing a little bit “I must warn you it requires lots of skill to use, and just cause its not physically taxing as a bow does not mean it can be used without proper training as well. I would recommend letting one of your squad mates help with that…. Or I could help you for after all we are fellow knights why not help each other.” Of course it was not just that, but if the white haired girl becomes his confidant he will have some leeway in the azure deers and of course his information network must grow as much as it can.
Ophelia would consider the man’s suggestion and explanation. There was truth to the matter, especially since a spear definitely would keep enemies at bay. As well, the weapon could be held with two hands, which makes it much more balanced and stable in the long run, as well as helping with the strength needed to use the weapon effectively. The only problem was that she could not see herself using the spear as a weapon. It seemed awkward in terms of handling the weapon itself. As well, Ophelia herself was not comfortable with the rigidity that came with a spear. “I can see your point, and I’ll keep in mind.” Ophelia would nod, “Though I would not mind to a session or two of practice, with the weapon of my choice of course. It might be good for me to be able to use the weapon against another person who fights mainly with a weapon.” She would pause, “You do fight mainly with a weapon right? I would assume so, since you seem to have an extensive knowledge of the matter!”
“Well, yes,” Ophelia would agree with Ferdia Wilhelm’s statement. “The Magic Knights are supposed to be a cohesive unit of the best and brightest.” She would not put herself in the category of best, but she liked to think that she was one of the brighter mages within the Magic Knights. That was what she was recruited for after all. Plus her Sensory specialization, she supposed. “Though I haven’t really been exposed to the more difficult missions, so I really cannot comment much about it yet. Hopefully I will be able to expand my repertoire soon, which hopefully will open up more opportunities for myself!” It was a hope.
She would then listen to the man’s explanation of his magic. Defense was definitely an important specialization, something sometimes made or broke a team of Magic Knights on a dangerous mission. Ophelia would nod, catching the pun, but was distracted now by the weapon she had just mentioned. She could see it hanging behind the counter, though seemed a bit more neglected than the other more commonly used weapons. Ophelia could see herself using the Chakram, weaving through throngs of enemies. Also, her acrobatic abilities would work well with this weapon, and she could see now how deadly she could be wielding it. “You’re right, maybe I’ll get you to be my practice dummy.” She would nod, still eyeing the weapon, “I could see it as a projectile as well,” She would surmise that the round weapon could be used to bounce between enemies, though only if thrown in the right angle. “It would take a lot of work, don’t you think? I think it will be worth it though.” Ophelia made a mental note to read more about the weapon itself. “Only as a temporary weapon, at least? Until I can find a much more suitable weapon, Magical preferably.” She surmised. One day maybe, if she ever gets a good treasure from a dungeon, or when she saved up enough money to procure one. “Ferdia Wilhelm, you have been a great help to me today.” She would round herself towards the man, “I hope I have not taken too much of your time, having been a little confused about the matter concerning weapons.” she apologized with a slight bow, hoping that she had not been too much of a bother to the young man.
Ferdia would assume that the girl would not take the suggestion of the spear, for it seemed like an intermediating weapon on the surface. She would then suggest that she would need a couple of practice session with whatever weapon she would use. “of course and yes I do have some sort of affinity with weapons, from spears to swords to even bow and arrows I trained with a lot of things.” Of course he did, he had to. Ferdia is to be the perfect son of the Wilhelm family carrying all of the burden on his shoulder specially since Fionn was not up to the standards his family had for them.
Ferdia would smile and nod as the girl agreed with his statement, it was a good thing. the raven haired man was getting tired of seeing all of these knights thinking they are immortal and spreading themselves a little bit too thin for their own good. “I see well its better to take it slowly none of the strong magic knights you might hear about were born that strong, there is a certain amount of hard work you need to do so don’t try to rush your progress and you will get your moment to shine eventually.” Ferdia said with a slight smile on his face.
The man would then chuckle “well that is certainly a possibility, I would have to find some free time in order to help you but I am sure we will eventually find something. In fact there is a new spear I want to try out perhaps I could use it while I help you with the chakram.” The man would say as he began to scratch his chin and looking at the ceiling thoughtfully, he was thinking about testing that spear properly ever since he came back to the clover kingdom. “oh yeah it will take a bit a of hard work to get used to the chakrams but I am sure you will be able to learn it quickly and besides I might be a harsh trainer but I will make sure you will have it under control quickly.” He would say as he focused his gaze back to the girl.
The man would then wave his hand at her apology and bow. “please milady don’t be silly a beautiful lady like does not need to apologize. But perhaps you could give me the pleasure of knowing your name?” the man would say as he gave the girl a flirtatious wink.
There was a pause as Ferdia Wilhelm asked for her name. Everything he had told her had registered in her mind, and at the moment, all she wanted to do was to get to the nearest library and research some more about weapons. More specifically, she had been really enamoured with the idea of using the Chakram as a weapon. She had the thought of incorporating her already existing acrobatic skills with the weapon, weaving in and out of her enemy’s range. Plus, it also made to a good throwing weapon. But first, she should reply to the man.
“Oh! I realized I never told you my name, Ferdia Wilhelm.” She would smile, “Ophelia. Ophelia of the Azure Deers. Pleased to meet you, properly now.” Ophelia would wave at him comically, before looking up at the time. It had been past the hour she had allotted herself for looking around for a weapon, Now, it was time to meet with the librarian who had set aside some books that Ophelia had wanted to borrow for research on golems. It seems that she would need to also borrow some books on the Chakram as well. Hopefully the librarian would not mind her extra requests.
“I need to leave now, a previous appointment is happening very soon.” She would start, sad that she had not been able to buy a weapon. “I hope to meet you again sometime soon. Maybe we can finally get that practice in with my weapon of choice.” Ophelia would smile. “Stay safe out there, Ferdia Wilhelm.” She would conclude, before rushing out of the shop.
She was hummed to herself as she made her way as fast as possible to the library, “Oh dear! Oh dear! I shall be too late!”
Ferdia would take note of that name, Ophelia. It was not a name that was important in the overall scheme of things for now, but maybe one day it will be. “what a lovely name that is, Ophelia.” The golden eyed man would say with a gentle smile, as the girl waved at him. “alright well that sounds good, you too stay safe lady Ophelia and sure, I will see what I can do when the time comes.” He would say with a wave as he watched as the girl ran out of the shop and tried to catch something.
He then turned his attention back to the shop and the man who finally came out with the thing he requested, after a bit of discussion Ferdia explained to him that he might expect Ophelia to come back and get her chakram from him later. He then payed the man and left back to the Wilhelm state, with some training to do.
