Riley appeared on the hillside just as the sun seemed to be setting. It was the last one. This would be the boy’s last test. The exam period in which all the examinees were trying their best to do what they could to become magic knights was finally coming to an end. Riley hadn’t really had much time to observe how well the other mages were fairing in their endeavors, aside from the spars he was engaged in of course. He hadn’t seen Lillith, Rosalia, or even Megumi. Come to think of it, did she even show up? Whether she did or didn’t, there’d be no way for the Silva to tell with how the system worked. He couldn’t help but feel so isolated, but unfortunately it was just how things had to be. “Hopefully at the end of this I can just join the Silver Eagles. Then I won’t have to be so alone. I’ll have a squad, and more importantly, I’ll have friends.” the boy said to himself. The Silver Eagles weren’t exactly known for their “friendly” members, but if it was anyone who could make the group of mostly nobles understand the value of bonds, it was him. He strongly believed in that much at least. However, there would be much more time for all of that later. For now, he had a task. His final task to be exact. Espionage wasn’t the water mage’s strong suit by far, but at least this mission he wasn’t specifically restricted to sneaking around without being caught. [break][break] His mission wasn’t too rough. All he had to do was wait for everyone to fall asleep. Then after then were all settled in, he would enter the main tent and locate the battle plans that had just been discussed at the strategy meeting. Using the special tool he was given, the Silva would copy those plans and hopefully get out with his life. Though the teen figured it wouldn’t be that easy. He knew that just like before with the rescue mission he went on, those guards would sense him coming from a mile away. Just like then, he’d have to get his hands dirty if we wanted to ensure that those plans were copied down successfully. The silver-haired mage punched his right hand into his open left palm. “Just what I like to hear. It’s more like extreme capture the flag if you ask me. This’ll be fun!” he exclaimed. The sun was finally beginning to disappear over the horizon and the boy knew that it was about time for him to head out. He began slowly making his way down the hillside. It may have been the same situation as the rescue mission, but this time he was extremely lacking in places to hide. He was very vulnerable in his current position. However, if he could just make it to the campsite before being detected then he’d be in a bit of luck. “I have to do everything I can to finish out this mission strong.” Riley said to himself as he neared the bottom of the hill. The Silva finally set foot in the grassy plain on which the campsite stood. It didn’t take him long to identify the main tent. Of course it was surrounded by the others, but that wouldn’t stop him. Riley was moving through the grass as quietly as he could, hoping not to draw any unnecessary attention to himself like he always seemed to do. However, unlike those times, the water mage was apparently doing an exceptional job at going without being detected by anyone just yet. “This has got to be some joke right?” he thought to himself. “There’s no way they’d let me make it this far without trying to stop me right? Or do they really not know that I’m here?” the Silva thought. For some diamond soldiers he just thought that they would be a bit more competent, even if this was just a simulation. “Guess I shouldn’t be complaining. The easier the mission is to complete, the better.” the water mage thought to himself as he continued moving closer towards the main tent. At this point, things were starting to seem a little too good to be true for the Silva. He was so close to the main tent and still he hadn’t been discovered by any of the guards at the campsite. Something was up. However, the boy didn’t question it too much. He slipped inside the main tent and took a look around. There wasn’t anyone inside. “No way this can be true.” he thought. [break][break] The Silva, with the strange looking device in hand, approached the battle plans that happened to just be sitting on the nearest table. The small device looked like a protractor and its compass. However, rather than looking like a 180 degree protractor, the device was 360 degrees. He placed the circular device onto the battle plans, causing a small zone of light to appear above the object. He placed the second piece of the device into the zone and let the magical item begin to go to work. All of a sudden, the Silva heard the tent corner fly open as someone from the outside pulled it back. “We got him!” the man exclaimed. The diamond soldier charged in at Riley, but the boy launched himself back at the soldier, somehow overpowering him as he speared him back outside the tent. The two of them hit the ground, Riley on top of the soldier, as he looked around at the mess he’d gotten himself into. “It was all a trap!” the teen thought to himself in shock as he found himself surrounded by two more camp guards. The soldier pushed the boy off of him and returned to his feet, dusting himself off. Riley hit the ground before he scrambled backwards towards the tent as he got to his feet quickly. “I’ll take you three down just like I took down those other guys!” he bravely let out. Riley had been having luck with fighting these diamond soldiers in his past missions, but that didn’t mean he should let it get to his head. [break][break] WC: 514|TWC: 1,032

“If I just try my best here, then I should be able to buy enough time for that machine to finish copying the battle plans, but then what? Part of the mission was being able to get out as well. If I’m bleeding out on the ground then I can’t do that very well I guess.” the Silva thought. He clenched his fists and nodded. “Then it’s decided. I have to win here! Water Reinforcement Magic: Water Dragon’s Liquid Knuckle!” he shouted, using his magic to cover his hands with water. He charged at one of the soldiers and delivered a powerful right cross to the side of his face, causing the man to stumble back. “The little brat took the offensive. Shut him down now!” one of the soldiers shouted. “Glass Creation Magic: Reflective Array!” the man shouted. Shards of glass began to shoot up from the ground in clusters all around the mage. Riley turned to see the spell coming towards him, fearing that soon a cluster would appear just below him as well. He jumped into the air, right towards the mage responsible for the attack. He uses all of his momentum to drop kick the man right in the face, sending him to the ground. He then quickly pounced on him, delivering a powerful punch to his gut. That’s when the boy felt that he was restrained from behind. The last soldier locked the water mage into a full nelson and held him there. [break][break] Riley kicked and struggle against the man’s grip. “Let me go!” the Silva shouted, his frustration was apparent in his movements and tone of voice. Just as the first man started to get back up from the earlier punch that riley threw, the Silva took a deep breath in while he still could. “Water Creation Magic: Water Dragon’s Roar!” he shouted, releasing two jets of water from his mouth that spiraled around one another like a drill, slamming into the man knocking him back to the ground. As for the man holding the Silva in a full-nelson. “Water Reinforcement Magic: Water Dragon’s Liquid Barrier!” he shouted, activating his third spell. A thin layer of water surrounded the silver-haired mage, protecting him from the harm of the man’s physical attack. He then shot both of his hands upwards, connecting a punch to each side of the man’s head simultaneously. The soldier immediately dropped the Silva, clutching his head in pain. Riley dropped to the ground before rushing back in at the diamond soldier. He threw a punch directly into the man’s gut, causing him to double over. He then delivered a powerful roundhouse kick to the side of the man’s head, knocking him into the main tent. “Not to bad.” the Silva calmly said, letting his spells dissipate. He re-entered the main tent to check on the copy device. “Thank god nothing happened to it. Now I can get the heck out of here and complete my mission.” he said to himself. The teen collected his item that contained the copied plans and left the campsite. [break][break] WC: 513|TWC: 1,545
