By this time now, Riley had already became accustomed to his life during the exam period. It was back and forth, completing missions and fighting the other competitors. At the end of the day, as long as he got into the Silver Eagles then he didn’t care. That was his only goal. As soon as he accomplished that, then he’d truly be able to improve. Being a knight didn’t just signify his first step towards becoming just like his sister, but it also marked the beginning of a period of change for him. He didn’t want people to fear the Silver Eagles, but rather trust them more than any other Magic Knight squad to get the job done when it counted. He was tired of the Golden Dawn getting all the praise. The noble eagles were obviously better, or at least that’s what Riley believed. His sister was able to climb her way to the top and become the Captain of that organization. He had to do his best to follow in her footsteps and do the same. He couldn’t keep Nico running things all by himself for too long. However, that was the future he imagined for himself. He had to focus on what he was doing right now. His objective was to complete another mission for the exams. If anything, the Silva was out to prove that he was going to be the most promising magic knight of them all during the exams. The magical portal seemed ready as Riley approached it. [break][break] The portal was teeming with mana, flowing out into the ground around him as it pulsated. Riley smiled excitedly as he quickly dashed through the portal. He came out on the other side, immediately taking in his surroundings. The Silva had developed a personal phobia when it came to running through these portals. “One of these days I’m gonna get dropped in over the edge of a cliff.” the boy said to himself after uttering a sigh of relief. He seemed to be completely fine for the time being, but what was up with that ominous tower. It was made of stone, looked really sturdy, but he felt that it was more important than what he thought. Why else would he have been brought here? Just then, a soldier approached the Silva, armor clanking as he walked. “You there!” the man called out. Riley observed the man. He looked injured, like he’d just gotten out of a battle of something. “You’re a mage right? Please, you have to go into that tower and save those kids. They need help.” he requested. Riley blinked a few times, “Wait… there are kids in there?” he asked. The man nodded, “Yes. They’re the children of the military chief. Those diamond kingdom goons kidnapped them and we couldn’t stop them. Their magic was too powerful, so we were hoping that you could assist us. Surely you could take them.” he explained. Taking in the full gravity of the situation Riley gave a swift nod to the man. “I’ll take care of it sir. Count on it.” the water mage declared. His mission was right there in front of him. Get into the tower and save the kids. [break][break] WC: 537|TWC: 537

Riley broke into a sprint. He had to get into that tower as quickly as he could. This had to be all part of the mission, but if it were a real situation then he wouldn’t have any time to waste. “I’m the only one who can save those kids right now. That means I absolutely cannot fail!” the Silva told himself as he approached the giant stone structure. Now, usually Riley didn’t have a mind for coming up with a plan or anything like that. Making up and sticking to strategies were definitely weak points that belonged to the silver-haired teenager. However, this time he had a bit of a head on his shoulders. He didn’t want to do anything to jeopardize the lives of the kids if he could avoid it. “I-I can’t.” the boy said to himself, sliding to a stop. “If I just run in there then those guys are just going to kill them. I don’t want that to happen. It’ll mean that I failed.” he said to himself. Unfortunately, that meant that the teen would have to sneak into the tower. That meant that he’d basically be screwed in terms of any advantage. Those mages would probably be able to pick him off before he even knew where they were. Such were the struggles of poor mana sensing. “Either way… I just have to stick to that strategy for as long as it’ll last me. Hopefully I’ll be able to get the drop on those soldiers before they find me.” the water mage said. [break][break] The Silva quietly pushed open the front door of the tower, trying to be as sneaky as he could possibly be. It wasn’t exactly daytime just yet, so maybe the guards were still sleepy, or completely knocked out. The water mage crept down the hall of what seemed like the main area on the first floor. He assumed that if the kids weren’t down here, then they were on the second story. Thankfully there wasn’t anything on the first floor that indicated that there would be rooms or anything of the sort. This meant that he could focus his efforts on finding the stairs as quickly as possible. Just as the Silva tried to break into more of a light jog rather than a sneaky walk, a mage peered around the corner, immediately making eye contact with the boy. Riley froze for a minute, realizing that his cover had already been blown. “Hey! We got someone in here!” the man shouted back towards where he came from. Assuming that the stairs were in that direction, the Silva made his move. He began sprinting down the hallway towards the man. “Water Creation Magic: Water Dragon’s Liquid Knuckle!” the boy shouted. “Oil Creation Magic: Flame Oil Bomb!” the diamond mage shouted back, releasing a bullet of flaming oil towards Riley. The Silva’s combat senses kicked in as he immediately dropped to the floor in a sliding motion. He slid between the soldier’s legs before popping up behind him, delivering a left punch right into the man’s kidney. He then quickly jumped up, kicking his right foot off of the wall on his right, propelling himself towards the soldier, smacking him in the side of the head with a right punch. The man dropped to the ground after the two blows, not having much time at all to retaliate. However, that didn’t matter too much considering he’d already called his buddies. Riley moved quickly, making it to the end of the hall and taking a left. The stairs had to be somewhere around the area considering that’s where the Silva saw the man direct his voice towards. Sure enough after traveling down that direction for a little bit, the mage caught the stairwell on his right side. He grabbed the corner and rounded himself around it as he began to quickly ascend the stone steps. “Hey! Let those children go!” Riley shouted. As the water mage made it to the second floor he witnessed an unforgivable sight. One of the diamond mages was standing in the back oh the room with both of the kids bound at their wrists and ankles by the man’s chain magic. Meanwhile, the last diamond soldier stood confidently near the top of the stairs as if he was simply challenging the younger mage. “Not so fast kiddo.” the soldier uttered as Riley approached him. The water mage let out a bit of a growl, frustrated at this point. He was the one that got caught and put those kids in the situation they were in. “Get out of my way.” the teen simply told the soldier. [break][break] “And if I don’t?” the soldier asked back. He was probably betting on the fact that Riley’s inexperience would hinder his chances in a fight. However, unfortunately for him, he didn’t realize that in a fight was the only place where the Silva’s mind excelled. Currently, he had a job to do, and he didn’t feel like letting the situation get any more out of hand. He clenched his fists and prepared for action. “Crystal Reinforcement Magic: Prism Knife!” the soldier shouted. His magic seemed to transform his hands into crystal blades that he could use for attacking. The man lunged at Riley while forming an X with his hands. He went in for a decapitation motion, swinging both arms from their crossed positions towards the outsides of his body. However, the Silva reacted quickly. He ducked under the strike before popping back up, rotating his body in order to deliver a powerful jump reverse side kick to the man’s chest. The soldier staggered back a bit as Riley ran past him, now moving directly towards the chain mage who had the kids hostage. “Water Creation Magic: Water Dragon’s Roar!” he shouted. The Silva let loose two jets of water that spiraled around one another, replicating a drill motion. It made direct contact with the chain mage, sending him crashing through the window behind him. The Silva noticed that the soldier’s chain magic was going to pull the kids out right along with him, so he jumped up onto the window sill, slamming his feet down on top of the chains in order to stop them from moving. [break][break] The crystal mage had recovered from Riley’s kick and turned to face him once again. The Silva had his back turned, but he could still hear the fast approaching footsteps of the crystal mage. The soldier jumped up and aimed to swing straight down, trying to cleave the water mage apart. Riley jumped out of the window and rotated his body, grabbing the top of the frame from the outside. He watched as the diamond soldier’s missed attack chopped the chain mage’s spell in half, freeing the kids and letting the chain mage fall to the ground. Riley then kicked his legs back to gain momentum before swinging back into the room, delivering a drop kick right to the man’s face. The soldier tripped back a bit. Riley followed up, launching himself right back at the man. He nailed the soldier with a powerful right cross to the jaw before dropping low, sending a punch right into his stomach. He then finished the man with a reverse hook to the side of the head, sending him to the ground. “I actually did it!” the boy said in between his accelerated breaths. [break][break] WC: 659|TWC: 1,774
