And so his journey to get supplies went along without much issue.
It was true that perhaps he was a bit cold without his cloak, but his Magic Knight's Mantle was at least better than nothing. He shivered in the cold but nonetheless managed his load of several extra logs and s’mores supplies. As he looked ahead, he suddenly realized that the fire had several more people surrounding it. He was about to wave hello when he realized he had his hands full.
“U-uh!” Juggling the wood in his hands, Oscar nearly tripped over his own two feet. And then he did.
Thankfully he dropped it right it in the fire. The smores supplies went flying, but thanks to his klutzy dexterity, somehow the young man was able to grab everything before it fell to the ground. Lying on his back, Oscar ended up laughing as everything had landed on his chest. Packs of graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate, and of course he had made sure not to drop a single supply, but not without nearly knocking himself out.
“Uh… H-Hi everyone, I’m back…”
The fire seemed to explode and burn brighter as the new fuel Oscar had thrown into the fire quite literally burned up in flames as well. Oscar was finally able to sit up, adjusting his glasses as they had become crooked in his fall.
“Huh?’ It seemed that Zaven had said something to him about Vanilla. Oscar tilted his head, before blushing a bit as Zaven seemed to mention their mutual cousin. “Vani and me? Well. we grew together so we’re practically like siblings.” Rubbing his hair free of snow, the young man went about preparing another s’more for himself.
He overheard the young man who had come later, stating how impressive it was to be in Golden Dawn. The compliment did make him blush once more, adding in a bit of an embarrassed laugh. But nonetheless, he was happy to hear that someone else had dreams of being a Magic Knight. “W-Well, I wish you the best of luck! It’s not easy impressing Captain Arthurius, but if you prove you’re worth it, then he’ll definitely see your potential!” Oscar made a fist with his free hand, then raising it into the air to add for dramatic effect. “Ever since I was a little kid, I-I always wanted to be a Magic Knight. I knew it was gonna be tough since I was just a commoner, then my cousin showed that she could do it... She passed the exams and joined the Coral Peacock! Well, that was before she figured she was a noble, b-but that’s beside the point. I ended up doing it, and I got into Golden Dawn too! So that really means something! And really think that if you work hard and prove that you’re strong, then being a great magic knight is something that you can definitely achieve!”
It seemed that the young man was speaking more to everyone at the fire than just to Yuurei, and his small speech was said a bit louder than he intended. Becoming a bit embarrassed afterward, he was halfway sure that most there probably didn’t want to hear the ramblings of a kid with dreams. “I guess it sounds kinda cliche, but it’s really true y’know?” Shrugging his shoulders a bit, yes, it was just something that Oscar naturally and naively believed. But maybe that was just the spirit of the festival anyway, making wishes and hoping that dreams would come true.
And more than anything, it was Oscar’s dream to be a great magic knight.
